Trip Notes for August 31

August 31: Ashgabat, Turkmenistan

10:00. We have three new people joining the truck for this next leg. Richard is the office manager at his wife’s surgical practice in Australia; Karen runs a B&B in Tasmania; and Jess is a political advisor and fundraiser from Los Angeles.

16:00. This was the “Recharge Day” that I didn’t get yesterday. While I spent the entire day at the hotel, it wasn’t entirely stress free. The Internet at the hotel is pathetic and many sites are blocked or slowed to the point of being useless. I can post to the blog through an app on my phone but I cannot see what I have posted, hence more than my normal array of typos. Facebook isn’t much easier. Very simple chores like posting 20 photos can take several hours!

21:00. Xara has been fixed! I have to wonder if all the sensors on a relatively new Mercedes truck are really worth having. I didn’t see any old Russian army trucks being towed around the camel market.
