Hari was the entrepreneurial “fixer” who hung around my hotel in Pushkar during the annual camel fair. There wasn’t a thing he couldn’t track down… for a price. One American guest asked the manager if he knew of a local shop that stocked instant oatmeal. The manager, having lived in the UK for a while, replied that he knew what this was but that it would not be found outside Delhi or Mumbai and even there it would be scarce. Hari overheard this conversation and accepted the challenge. The next morning there were six varieties of Quaker Oatmeal displayed in a pyramid at the front desk and available for about 50 cents per serving. The staff didn’t know where Hari had found it but they said it took him an exceptionally long time – over an hour!
